When I left Berlin, Hannah pressed a gift into my hand.
It was the music of Rimsky-Korsakoff, a small cassette. I played it repeatedly, in my office, never wondering why she should give me this work of a composer I would not have guessed was one she liked.
I did not realize what it meant until a moment ago, so caught up have I been with my own self-pity.
"Scheherezade."
I could have been a character in a different story.
It required that I play a man I was not.
