*Submission Questions

+ Do you accept poetry, non-fiction, scripts, and the like?

We do not. As the name implies, our magazine is dedicated to fiction. Any manuscripts submited to us that do not meet our guidelines unfortunately will not be considered for publication.

Please be sure to read our submission guidelines in full before submitting.

+ What genres of fiction do you publish?

We accept a variety of genres including but not limited to: experimental, satire, literary, translations, and contemporary. We do not, however, publish genres such as science fiction, romance, young adult fiction as per our submission guidelines.

It is always a good idea to read what a magazine publishes before submitting. You can purchase old issues and subscriptions of Fiction on our website. Alternatively, we recommend you look into whether a library near you is a subscriber or, at least, check out the handful of online excerpts of our previously published stories.

+ Can I submit my full length novel to you?

No. We are not a book publisher and we cannot refer you to one. You are, however, welcome to submit a novel excerpt as long as it is self-contained and unpublished. As always, please be sure to review our submission guidelines in full before submitting.

+ Do you accept work from emerging writers?

Absolutely. We are thrilled to be able to find and give great new talent an outlet.

+ How many submissions do you get per reading period?

On average, over 2,000.

+ How do I withdraw my submission?

If you submitted through our submissions manager, login to your account... *

+ How long should I expect to wait for a response to my submission?

It can take up to 9 months for you to hear back from us. Keep in mind that our current reading period closes on April 15, 2018 and does not start up again until the fall of 2018. Therefore, if you submit toward the end of our reading period, your submission will likely be reviewed after the next reading period begins.

+ Can you provide feedback on my submission?

As we are a small, dedicated group of volunteers, please understand that feedback should neither be requested nor expected.

*Subscription Questions

+ Can you mail me a complimentary issue?

Unfortunately, no.

+ How can I submit my manuscript to you?

Two ways. You can do so online, through our submissions manager, or you can mail a printed manuscript to our office. Details regarding these methods can be located on our submission guidelines page.

Kindly be aware that we do not accept unsolicited email submissions.

+ When do new issues come out?

We publish one yearly issue in the fall. The exact month varies from year to year so please be patient if you are subscribed and have not received your issue yet.

+ I haven't received the issue I ordered. What should I do?

Our 2017 issue is expected out in November. Allowing for shipping, subscribers should receive their order at some point in December. If you have not received anything by 2018, please contact us. Link

If you have ordered an old issue, please be aware that we are only able to process orders between September and May. You may, therefore, experience a delay if you placed an order during the summer as our office is closed during that period.

As of October 2017, we are hard at work processing our backlog of orders. If you requested back issues earlier in the year and have not yet received them, you should be getting your order soon.
